Volunteer Spotlight on Cheryl MacPherson

Volunteer Spotlight on Cheryl MacPherson

Cheryl MacPherson is a valued volunteer who started spending time with our families nearly two years ago. She was immediately taken in by our kids and has spent countless hours volunteering at the House, working on special events, serving on the Board of Trustees, running our volunteer information sessions and being an amazing friend to everyone she meets. We are incredibly blessed to have her dedicated heart and soul at the Pasadena Ronald McDonald House. We LOVE you Cheryl!

Date: April 3rd, 2008

The creative students and teachers at Cloverly Elementary School in Temple City held a spring food drive and collected over 1300 cans of food for our families! Again this year, the boys competed against the girls and the girls won AGAIN! Thank you to the awesome students at Cloverly for a successful event and we wish the boys good luck for next year! Also look for the special days the students have "adopted" at our House.

In Loving Memory of Susan Dietrich In Loving Memory of Susan Dietrich
Date: March 18th, 2008

It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our special friend and donor, Susan Dietrich. As a veterinarian, Susan loved animals and devoted her life to taking care of them. According to our Board President, Liz Vail, her friend Susan and the vet of her dogs would instantly get down on the floor with the animals the minute you brought them to the clinic. Dr. Dietrich spent countless hours sitting bedside a sick or wounded animal and would make housecalls when the pet was too ill to travel. After being diagnosed with cancer 7 years ago, Susan devoted her life to staying well as long as possible and for recogonizing the battles our families have to go through when they have a child facing cancer. The Ronald bench that sits in our front porch was a gift from Susan along with our preschool sized play equipment, teeter totter, garden bench, croquet set and garden dedication - that she named after her Godkids and all kids. She had a zest for life and lost her battle with cancer on March 18th. She is missed by her friends and family and most of her her beloved dog Annie. We are proud to announce the naming of our new pet visit program to forever be: The Susan & Annie Dietrich Puppy Love Program. Our four legged friends and their owners spend hours with our families here at the House providing comfort and companionship. We couldn't think of a better tribute to our dear friend. We miss you so very much Susan.

In their own words..A word of thanks..

Words simply cannot express our gratitude for allowing us to stay in your home. In fact you should change the name to use the word "home" as a house is empty but a home is filled with warmth. I have driven by your "home" hundreds of times on my way home from work and never known what it was for.

Over the last few weeks, I have been attempting to relocate my family to Kansas City. My wife went into premature labor and I was 1600 miles away. Since the baby had to stay in the NICU at Huntington, we were offered the privilege of staying in your home. All I can say is how humbled I have become in the week we were here. Your staff is awesome! Meeting the other families that have been staying here has profoundly humbled me as well. My challenges and obstacles faced are nothing compared to what your other guests are facing. My problems are nothing in the bigger picture, and I believe that we are placed in the face of adversity to not only strengthen us but also to remind us of how blessed we are.

I am the proud father of 5 very beautiful children and knowing that your "home" is here for those that are in need and for the sake of our children, warms my heart and comforts my soul. Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to you all from the 'Ohana Auwae-Dekker family.
